01

Adoption

Our goal is to ensure that every animal is placed in a loving, safe, and permanent home. The following steps outline our adoption process from start to finish:

02

Foster

Looking for a way to help out but you're not ready to take on a new family member permanently? Our fostering program is just that!

03

Foster-to-Adopt

Looking to adopt but want to make sure this pet is the right fit for your household? Foster to Adopt is the best way!

Application Submission

Interested adopters complete an Adoption Application (online or paper form).

The application collects information about the applicant’s home, lifestyle, experience with pets, and preferences (breed, age, energy level, etc.).

Application Review

Rescue staff or volunteers review the application to determine if the adopter is a good match for the desired pet.

If additional information is needed, the team will contact the applicant for clarification or follow-up questions.

Reference and Vet Checks

Personal and veterinary references are contacted to confirm responsible pet ownership history.

If the applicant rents, a landlord check may be done to ensure pets are allowed.

Meet and Greet

If the initial review goes well, a meet-and-greet is scheduled between the adopter and the animal (and sometimes the adopter’s current pets).

This allows everyone to see if there is a good connection and compatibility.

Home Visit

A home visit may be conducted (in person or virtual) to ensure the environment is safe and appropriate for the animal.

Volunteers check for hazards, secure fencing, and suitable living conditions.

Adoption Approval

Once the adopter is approved, the adoption fee is collected and the adoption contract is signed.

This contract outlines care expectations, medical follow-up requirements, and a return policy if the adoption doesn’t work out.

Animal Goes Home

The pet is spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations before going home.

Volunteers or staff provide the adopter with medical records, transition tips, and recommended supplies.

Post-Adoption Follow-Up

The rescue conducts follow-up check-ins (via phone, email, or visit) to ensure the animal is adjusting well.

Support and guidance are offered for any questions or challenges.

Goal & Congratulations

To create successful, lifelong matches between rescue animals and adopters while ensuring the well-being of every animal in our care.

Foster Application

Interested individuals complete a Foster Application Form (online or paper).

The form collects details about the applicant’s home environment, experience with animals, work schedule, other pets, and preferences (e.g., dogs, cats, kittens, medical cases, etc.).

Application Review

The rescue team reviews the application for suitability.

Reference and veterinary checks are conducted to confirm responsible pet ownership history.

If the applicant rents, landlord permission is verified to ensure pets are allowed.

Interview

A phone or in-person interview is scheduled to discuss the responsibilities of fostering, expectations, and available support.

The rescue answers any questions and clarifies the time commitment, type of animals, and typical foster duration.

Home Visit

A home check (virtual or in-person) is conducted to ensure the environment is safe and appropriate for foster animals.

The team looks for hazards, escape routes, and suitable spaces for housing the animal.

Approval and Agreement Signing

Once approved, the foster receives the Foster Agreement to review and sign.

This agreement outlines the foster’s responsibilities, rescue’s obligations, and terms of care, liability, and return policies.

A copy of the signed agreement is kept on file by both the rescue and the foster.

he foster-to-adopt period.

Foster Matching and Placement

The rescue matches the foster with an appropriate animal based on experience, comfort level, and household setup.

The animal’s background, health information, and care instructions are shared before placement.

Supplies (food, bedding, crates, litter, etc.) are provided or coordinated as needed.

Orientation and Support

Fosters receive orientation or training materials that cover animal care, behavior basics, safety, and communication procedures.

The rescue assigns a foster coordinator or mentor as a main point of contact for questions or emergencies.

Ongoing Care and Updates

The foster provides daily care, socialization, and monitoring of the animal’s health and behavior.

Regular updates, photos, and progress reports are shared with the rescue for adoption promotion and medical records.

Veterinary Care and Expenses

Fosters must contact the rescue before seeking veterinary care, except during life-threatening emergencies.

The rescue provides guidance on approved veterinarians and covers pre-authorized medical costs.

Program Follow-Up

The rescue maintains regular communication with fosters for ongoing support and appreciation.

Feedback from fosters is encouraged to help improve the program and strengthen the rescue’s foster network.

Adoption or Return

When the animal is ready for adoption, the foster helps with meet-and-greets and provides feedback on temperament and behavior.

Once adopted, the foster may assist with the transition or temporarily continue care until the adoption is finalized.

If the foster can no longer care for the animal, they must return it to the rescue safely—never to a third party.

Application Submission

Interested individuals complete a Foster-to-Adopt Application (same as or similar to the adoption application).

The application collects details about the applicant’s home, experience, schedule, and preferences to ensure an appropriate match.

Application Review

Rescue staff or volunteers review the application.

Personal, veterinary, and landlord references (if applicable) are verified.

The rescue ensures that the applicant understands the foster-to-adopt terms and expectations.

Meet and Greet

A meet-and-greet is arranged between the applicant and the animal.

If the applicant has other pets, introductions are discussed or arranged in a controlled environment.

Both parties decide if they would like to proceed with the foster-to-adopt placement.

Home Check

A home visit (virtual or in-person) ensures that the environment is safe and suitable for the animal.

This includes checking fencing, indoor space, and the overall setup for the animal’s comfort and security.

Agreement and Deposit

The applicant signs a Foster-to-Adopt Agreement, outlining responsibilities during the trial period.

An adoption deposit of 50% of the adoption fee is collected upfront and held until the adoption is finalized. The final 50% is collected at the time the adoption is finalized. The deposit will be returned if the foster and/or the rescue decides it's not a good fit.

The rescue remains the legal owner of the animal during the foster-to-adopt period.

Trial Foster Period

The animal is placed in the adopter’s home for a trial period (typically 1–4 weeks, depending on the rescue’s policy).

The adopter provides care, socialization, and integration into the home.

The rescue stays in regular contact to provide support, answer questions, and monitor the adjustment.

setup for the animal’s comfort and security.

 Veterinary Care and Expenses

The rescue continues to cover pre-approved veterinary care during the trial period.

The adopter agrees to contact the rescue before seeking any medical treatment unless it’s an emergency.

Routine care and supplies (food, toys, etc.) may be provided by either party as outlined in the agreement.

Decision and Adoption Finalization

After the foster-to-adopt period:

If the match is successful, the adopter signs the official adoption contract, and ownership of the animal is transferred.

The adoption fee (or deposit) becomes final at that time.

If the adopter decides the match isn’t right, the animal is returned to the rescue, and the deposit may be refunded (depending on policy).

Post-Adoption Support

The rescue provides follow-up communication after the adoption is finalized to ensure a smooth transition.

Adopters can reach out for training advice, behavioral support, or medical guidance if needed.

Goal

To ensure that every animal is placed in a permanent, loving home by allowing adopters to experience real-life compatibility before committing fully. This process helps reduce return rates and creates more confident, lasting adoptions.
